“It’s churchy, I know” is an installation work from September 2025 in Tanzhong, Beijing. The piece reinterprets the historical concept of the congregational “triptych altarpiece” as a temporary dwelling in the contemporary context. The installation adopts the form of a historical triptych altarpiece (central panel + two foldable wings). It constitutes a miniature, spatially deep folding container; when opened in a public space, it evokes an atmosphere of coming together and initiates social moments.

The miniature “folding dwelling” I created transcends its traditional liturgical use, aiming instead to carry the intimate connections and warm friendships that arise within a temporary shared space. Like a picnic tent, it has the quality of being unfoldable. It is an invisible yet tangible shelter, built by friendship in the specific site of today’s suburban park.
