Artist Statement
Our duo’s practice takes the friction between art theory, philosophy, and practice as its point of departure. A profound tension between direct natural experience and the weight of historical materials and imagery runs through our work. We aim to arrive at a lighthearted and playful reconciliation between these poles—using nimble, endearing organic forms to buoyantly carry structures imbued with historical gravity, thereby enacting an active intervention upon historical imagery. By attending to the dynamic connections and heterogeneous assemblages that bridge different mediums and traditions, we seek to recompose and reanimate fragments of historical images. In doing so, we aspire to evoke a dense and sincere contemporary emotion—a renewed, emergent tension rooted in tradition yet brimming with prospective energy.
